Orlando Pirates donates goods to the Zodwa Khoza Foundation

CAPE TOWN – In a day filled with joy, the 2023 MTN8 Champions, Orlando Pirates, in collaboration with MTN and PSL, presented sports and IT equipment valued at R100,000 to the Zodwa Khoza Foundation as part of the MTN8 Goals for Charity initiative.

Orlando Pirates, triumphant three times in the MTN8 tournament since the inception of the initiative, have significantly contributed to diverse communities in Soweto, including the Little Rose Centre in Kliptown and Ikageng in Orlando.

Established in 2011, the Zodwa Khoza Foundation (ZKF), a non-profit organization, is dedicated to supporting youth, women, the elderly, and child-headed households in the Diepkloof community.

The foundation aims to create a sustainable impact in society through its focus on six key areas: education, skills and entrepreneurship development, youth and women empowerment, sports development, health awareness, and food security and agriculture.

The Goals for Charity initiative has evolved into a pivotal aspect of the MTN8 tournament, leaving a positive impact on the communities it touches.

Celebrating its seventh year, the initiative has benefited over 28 organisations nationwide, providing aid valued at over R2 million.

During the MTN8 tournament, each goal scored within the regulated time of the match held a monetary value of R20 000.

Collectively, the eight participating teams scored a total of 19 goals, resulting in the sum of R380 000.

MTN increased the prize fund by contributing an additional R120 000, elevating the total Goals for Charity fund to R500 000 for charitable donations.

Jacqui O’Sullivan, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs at MTN SA, expressed MTN’s commitment to ensuring that all South Africans have access to the benefits of a modern connected life.

The MTN8 charitable work aligns with this vision, bringing positive outcomes to various communities.

Through the Goals for Charity initiative, non-profit organisations can create opportunities for locals to realize their full potential.

Sonono Khoza, Chairperson of the Zodwa Khoza Foundation expressed appreciation, saying, “we are immensely grateful for the generous donation of equipment and goods, which will undoubtedly bolster our ongoing and future projects at the Zodwa Khoza Foundation Skills and Entrepreneurial Development Centre,” she said.

“This support from our esteemed partners, MTN, PSL, and Orlando Pirates FC, exemplifies the transformative power of collaborative partnerships in fostering sustainable development and growth within our community. We are deeply humbled and eternally grateful for their commitment to our cause”.

O’Sullivan conveyed her appreciation to the Zodwa Khoza Foundation and its management for their incredible community work.

She acknowledged the foundation’s efforts in catering to both the young and old, equipping them with skills for sustainable self-sufficiency and concluded by expressing the wish that the foundation’s impactful work continues to inspire hope and contribute to a better future for all its beneficiaries.
