CAPE TOWN – Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler has shown his support to the under-fire Cape Town Spurs coach Shaun Bartlett following Urban Warrior’s seventh loss of the season.
Tinkler admitted to having a few words of encouragement to the Spurs coach after their 3-1 win over Urban Warriors on Saturday.
Last night saw Spurs tasting a seventh straight defeat in the DStv Premiership campaign after the Cape Derby against City.
“I don’t like talking about other teams and I feel for Shaun, I really, really feel for him but I think they needed to bring in a little bit more youth,” said Tinkler.
“When I say youth, someone 25, 26, 27 with a bit more experience to help Shaun because I think he’s a good coach.
“I already spoke to him after the game. I told him one thing, he must control what he can control, which is his level of professionalism.
“What you do every day when you come in and you train your team, and continue with that belief that what you’re doing is right because the game of football can be cruel, very, very cruel, especially for coaches.”
A win over Spurs saw Tinkler’s charges move to the ninth position on the log with 10 points after eight matches.
Tinkler says one needs to be patient with the youth but admit experience is needed.
“You know, you get phases where a group of players come through and they’re all talented and they’re all mature and they come into the team and they’re integrated quite easily, but then there’s going to be others that take time,” he said.
“And unfortunately, we’re in the business of now. You know, we want results now.
“So that’s one side of the game that’s changed, in my opinion, which is sad.”
