CAPE TOWN – Cape Town Spurs coach Shaun Bartlett is confident the Ikapa Derby against Cape Town City will be the turning point the team needs.
Spurs have not tasted a victory this season having played six matches in the DStv Premiership campaign and losing all.
The Urban Warriors are currently sitting at the bottom of the log.
However, Bartlett believes the Cape derby will boost their confidence.
“Well, I’m pretty confident, you know, obviously everybody knows that our season has not started the best as far as points on the board, but as far as confidence in my players and their abilities,” said Bartlett.
“I think come Saturday we will show why we deserve to be in this particular league.
“Also, we’ve worked hard for the last 18 months to be in the DStv Premiership and players even in the last couple of weeks have shown that we need to stay in this league.
“We’re not just here to make up numbers, it’s a massive game the Cape Derby so when it comes to motivation players don’t need that from me as a coach all they need is just a little bit of guidance and advice I would say so players are looking forward to it.”
Bartlett believes Spurs can still finish in a good position in the league as there’s still a long road ahead.
“Most of the guys are from Cape Town so when it comes to playing for the pride of Cape Town they know exactly what’s at stake and what we have to do in order to get the victory,” he said.
“Last season we had a set goal of promotion and one of being in the DStv Premiership.
“This season obviously we had to adjust the goal setting and make sure we still get success. So I think for us if we can just make the top eight it will be a massive achievement at this moment in time.”
