‘NWC2023 allows us to showcase our talent’, She Cranes shooter

CAPE TOWN – All is not all lost for the Uganda netball team after their 54-44 loss to the defending champions, Silver Ferns on Saturday.

She-Cranes have played two matches so far in the 2023 Netball World Cup winning only one.

The East African country has only one match left against Trinidad & Tobago on Sunday.

They are currently sitting in second position in the Pool D standings with just two points.

She Cranes shooter Mary Nuba believes the tournament has given them an opportunity to showcase their talent.

“We just want to showcase our talent on African soil and enjoy the tournament as much as we can because this is our home too and being South Africa feels like it’s in our back yard,” said Nuba.

“Our performance was phenomenal today even though we did not get what we wanted. We will keep fighting hard and improve on our next match.

“We have so much talent and this world cup is about that, to showcase our talent and make an awareness by giving back to so many young netballers who are watching.”

Nuba says being one of the two players with world cup experience brings stability to the side.

“Being here and being the one of two players that has experience for the tournament of this magnitude is helping a lot,” she said.

“What we bring to the team is good leadership and guiding other players and keep reminding them that we are a team and we have one goal to achieve.”
