CAPE TOWN – It has been a busy week in Cape Town ahead of the much anticipated 2023 Netball World Cup.
Malawi, one of four teams that represents the African continent has been hard on training as they aim for the top spot finish.
Earlier this week Malawi played two training matches against Fiji and the defending champions New Zealand respectively.
Head coach Sam Kanyenda believes the team has found a perfect combination as they kick off the campaign against UK side Scotland.
“So far the training has gone well, we have been training on our own – we played Fiji and then New Zealand – and we won the first game and lost the second one,” said Kanyenda.
“We have now seen the combination that we have to put up for the world cup. We know what’s working and we know what’s not.
“Now is the time to go to the tournament and execute.”
Malawi Queens have been placed in Pool B together with England, Scotland and Barbados.
Nyirenda added: “We are gunning for the top four finish in this world cup. We have been out of the top finishers for a while, now it’s time to aim higher,” he said.
“I think we are at an advantage because we are playing in Africa, there’ll be difference, we are at home. When we are playing abroad our audience is mostly people from the outside but here in South Africa there are people from Malawi so that makes a huge difference.”
