Cape Town – Ommiedraai Friends Athletics club will be hosting their fourth annual 10km road race in Kenilworth on Sunday morning.

Besides the 10km Road Race, there will also be an option of a 10km Race League Walk. Participants who are not fit enough for the 10km distance can do the 5km Fun Run.

The 10km will start in the road at 06:30 next to Kenilworth Shopping Centre (KC) and finish at the Rosmead Sports Complex across the road.

According to Wasfi Adams, race director, the club is catering for an expected 5000 participants on day.

“Yes, we are very excited to once again host the popular race for the fourth consecutive year. We have worked tirelessly to make sure everything is in place for the big day,” said Adams.

“Parking will be available at KC for only R5 for the whole day.”

Adams also revealed there will be a slight deviation from last year’s 10km route to avoid the long finish on the grass at the end of the race at Rosmead.

There will also be special prizes awarded to the first male and female athlete to reach the top of the hill of Tenant Street just past the 5km mark. To qualify for the King and Queen of the Hill award, the runners have to be one of the top five finishers of the race.

The first male and female across the line in the 10km will be rewarded with a prize of R5000 worth of Unit Trusts from the investment company, Kagiso.

Participants can register on Friday 20 October from 15:00 to 17:00 – on Saturday 21 October from 10:00 until 17:00 at the food court in KC – as well as from 05:00 to 06:30 on the morning of the race.

Entry for the 10km is R50 for licensed athletes. Temporary Licences cost R30. Juniors pay R30 and R15 for a temporary license. Entry is free for runners over the age of 70 years.
