Shocking new twist in Bongi ‘racial slur ‘ saga

PARIS – In a shocking new twist it has come to light that the Tom Curry racial slur fiasco stems from an incident in last years test match against England in November 2022.

Curry asked referee Ben O’ Keefe in last week’s Rugby World Cup semi-final against England what he should do if he was called a “white c…nt” by Springbok hooker Bongi Mbonambi.

Netwerk24 reports World Rugby has admitted that the incident under investigation stemmed from what happened in England’s loss to the Springboks in November last year and not lasts week’s 15-16 loss in the World Cup semifinal as previously reported.

Dominic Rumbles, World Rugby’s head of communication, said here at a press conference at Roland Garros that rugby’s governing body will continue to investigate the allegations.

“We will update you as soon as we have time to update,” he said.

“The goal is to do that investigation as quickly as possible.”

The Telegraph in London meanwhile notes that Curry has been receiving insults and threats on X (formerly Twitter) for the last few days regarding the claim he made against Mbonambi.

He was called several unflattering names and also warned to “never, ever set foot in South Africa”.

The English Rugby Union and Curry’s Club, Sale Sharks, condemned the abuse.

“We will update you as soon as we have time to update,” he said

“The goal is to do that investigation as quickly as possible.”
