An impressive incentive scheme has been announced for South African athletes taking part in the 2nd annual FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN on Sunday, 14 October 2018.

Incentives announced for South Africa’s elite athletes include R3000 for a time placing to R50 000 for a SA Record.

“South Africa is rich in talent especially in the sport of road running,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director Stillwater Sports.  “While our athletes get to compete against the world’s best abroad, they rarely get the opportunity to do so on home soil.  The FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN, however grants them this opportunity.   They get to compete against the best athletes (local and from abroad) in a world class ‘local’ 10km race.  Our goal is to help improve their abilities, while further uplifting the standard of South African road running.”

“We’re excited to take this one step further by introducing an incentive scheme for all South African elite runners,” continues Meyer.  “We are proud to be able to use the FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN as an incentive to motivate South African runners to continue improving on SA soil.  The incentive is in addition to the R750 000.00 prize purse that is spread across the FNB Run Your City Series.”

The FNB Run Your City Series is made up of the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN, FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN and the FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN.

In the men’s race, the categories start from 29 min 30 sec to 29 min 59 sec (in other words sub 30minutes) and decrease by 30 seconds each time, right down to a new SA Record – sub 27:38. The full breakdown is listed below.

The women’s incentive scheme starts at sub 34:30 and goes down to the women’s SA record of 31:13 or better. The first five athletes in each category will be awarded the incentive prizes.

Important to note, is that this is not cumulative. In other words, if 3 athletes break 28:30, they are ONLY eligible for the sub 28:30 incentive, not the incentive that would go with the sub 30, sub 29:30 and so forth. The same applies to the women. The SA Record incentives apply to the Open category only.
